Pretty humorous for the most part, intimate, it feels very connected to the satrali culture the author is introducing. His dirty shirt, his disgusting underwear, his daily ironing, his bad breath, his hemorrhoid attacks, his fuss, not to mention his bad moods, and his tantrums.
Basically, this is a graphic novel illustrating an afternoon of women’s gossip. They are everyday women, but with their own personal twists – nothing terribly exotic about it. An enjoyable quick-read – the illustrations brought the attitude and relevance to the various domestic truths around us.
Embroideries makes you a witness to the funny and casual conversations of a group of Iranian ladies on topics like failed marriages, sex, love spells, strategies of simulating one’s virginity.

Oct 07, Robin P. Ich bin etwas hin und hergerissen. Share your thoughts with other customers. She tells the stories of about 7 women in pages, but not narrative pages, comic-book style pages – this, like “Persepolis”, is a graphic novel. This was more like a vignette that she could have included in her other books somehow.

I missed her playing a more active role. Fatty made me read it by dangling the “it’s totally your kind of graphic novel” line. I think that generally speakinga dick isn’t really photogenic.
Rather wordy for a comic book.

Was Satrapi aiming to write an emancipatory, bordadoos graphic novel with Embroideries? These women are not just the butts of Embroideries ‘ jokes, they are its lifeblood.
They certainly don’t want to think of their mothers, aunts and grandmothers and what they may or may not be seeing or doing. In Persepolis we see a culture where bordxdos were treated in a vastly different manner than men. I also really appreciate the easy nuance and personhood it brings to Satrapi’s family. Terceira obra da Marjane que leio. I was absolutely fascinated with their gossipy personalities and satrappi comfortable they felt at poking fun at the men in their lives.
