Ultimately Pessoa’s description of depression and his refuge in uncaring will probably be something you relate to deeply or feel alienated from. For me, humanity is one vast decorative motif, existing through one’s eyes and ears and through psychological emotion.
It could equally have been organised a different way. It just could have been something special if it told a real story.
And that’s why the object of my close and constant study is the same common humanity that I loathe and stay away from. I might have seen some of myself in him, perhaps wallowed with him in gothic misery I’ve been known to do that from time to timebut my libto to these boring, self-centered ramblings was to simply walk away and move on to better things.
The desasisiego of Pessoa is, itself, somewhat confusing. And student of mankind, who is remarkably good, considering how little he interacts. And each produced a large body of poetry. Using his voice, Pessoa digs into his own soul. A completed thing is like a child; although imperfect like everything human, it belongs to us like our own children.
I suppose one cannot make a blanket statement about such things, but I suspect that to write something like The Book of Disquietone needs to contain in dfl self, more than a just a sliver of Soares.
I’ve never come across Pessoa’s work before this so I should probably. However, here, the work as a whole in liibro version has been assembled by a team of experts and pssoa from a trunk full of hundreds or thousands of fragments. He essentially invented multiple authors and wrote from their perspective. So far, the best book that I’ve read this year. He has certain fascist tendencies that peek through his primarily apolitical musings. If you don’t accept it as such, you are confronted with pages worth of loosely connected and often repeating concepts.
